iPhone outsells ALL smartphones in July
apple stock up 4.5 points on the news...
-
(Reuters) - Apple Inc's iPhone outsold all smartphones in the United
States in July, its first full month on sale, accounting for 1.8 percent
of all U.S. mobile handset sales, research group iSuppli said on Tuesday.
ISuppli reiterated its forecast that Apple would sell 4.5 million
iPhones this year, rising to more than 30 million in 2011.
The two models of the iPhone on the market sold more than Research in
Motion's Blackberry series, the entire Palm portfolio and any individual
smartphone model from Motorola, Nokia or Samsung.
ISuppli classifies the iPhone as a crossover phone that competes with
both smartphones, which have personal computer-like functions such as
e-mail, and feature phones, which have extras such as cameras and music
players.
"While iSuppli has not collected historical information on this topic,
it's likely that the speed of the iPhone's rise to competitive dominance
in its segment is unprecedented in the history of the mobile-handset
market," iSuppli said.
"Apple achieved this in the face of numerous, well-entrenched
competitors."
Most buyers of iPhones in the United States in July were male, under 35
and had a college degree, iSuppli said.
A quarter of those who bought an iPhone switched to operator AT&T, which
has an exclusive service agreement for the iPhone in the United States.
The iPhone will go on sale in Europe later this year.

Apple thinks iPhone sales will last 4 more years? I predict it may last 6
months to a year...but someone will trump it LONG before 4 years is up and
the Yuppie class will move on! They've NEVER had a phone that lasted a
year since dropping the Startacs and standard battery packs!

Yes, Edwin. 1.8% of *all* cell phones sold in the U.S. in July were
iPhones. So?
Pardon me: So what relevance do you think that fact has?

No, it's an estimate based on a survey says that 1.8% of all cell
phone sales were iPhones, not actual sales figures.

It did a good job of getting you to make yourself look stupid... AGAIN!

Are you claiming that a survey of 2 million is not statistically
significant?

No Larry, you have no idea of how all of this works.
Apple has 200+ patents on the iPhone, so no matter WHAT... Apple will
have the lead for 17 years or so... Apple is the outsider with far
better engineering talent than any Cell Phone company has, so Apple
completely eliminated the "cell upgrade" cycle with a SINGLE product.
Ouch!
Now anyone that gets an iPhone will have years and years of service
without upgrading, changing the battery, etc. They killed the "throw
away cell phone with one fell swoop!"
Apple builds the best cell phones on the planet and that's just a fact
the Cell Industry needs to learn.
It might take them 6 months to 4 years to understand, but when Apple
"enters" a "market"... all competitors die off rather quickly.
Apple did this with the mini and mainframe market in the early 80's, did
it again to the publishing industry, did it again with the MP3 market,
and now you are seeing them wipe out the Cell Phone Industry as we "knew
it", 65 days ago.
Apple will KILL off RIM, MOT, Symbian, Nokia, Samsung... they just don't
have the talent to compete against OSX inside a Phone.

Re: iPhone outsells ALL smartphones in July
re-posted, and very true...
Apple is a Disruptive Company, A modern day Business Volcano.
From the day of it's creation Apple has been a disruptive force in any
market it touched. The Apple II disrupted the computer industry by
creating a personal computer the average citizen could use. The Mac was
extremely disruptive in that it allowed the rest of us to actually be
productive and creative without having to fully understand how computers
work.
The iPod disrupted the music industry big time. Now comes the iPhone
doing the same thing to the cellphone industry.
Every time Apple enters a market they turn well established, profitable
business models into obsolete mush. And the big players don't like it
one bit.
Now the cellphone industry has been seriously disrupted and players are
scurrying around like rodents trying to figure out what to do next.
This a VERY GOOD thing.
